Act of Negligence on the Part of a Motorist Has Led to the Wrongful Death of an Innocent Bystander.

October 19, 2012 General

Losing a loved one in a fatal car accident is a traumatic event for the victim’s family, and this can be made worse by the common realization that an act of negligence on the part of a motorist has led to the wrongful death of an innocent bystander.

Some of our readers in Hartford might have heard of an accident that occurred in Oct. 2011 that resulted in the death of a 56-year-old woman. She passed away on Nov. 10, 2011, due to the injuries received during the accident. The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck her car was recently arrested on charges of negligent homicide as well as other driving-related violations.

According to reports at the time of the accident, the 16-year-old driver had been driving at around 50 mph before colliding with the woman’s car. The impact of the collision was severe enough to cause the woman’s vehicle to run into a concrete-filled steel pole and a third vehicle. The victim was then ejected from her vehicle. Police reports indicate that the young driver was using a cellphone at the time of the incident.

The family of the victim of a fatal car accident needs to be aware of the full range of legal rights and options available. The emotional pain of the loss may sometimes push the topic of compensation to one side. However, compensation for a wrongful death can help a family start the healing process by alleviating the financial burdens of the unexpected final costs associated with sudden death.
