A Man Has Filed a Lawsuit Citing Medical Errors as the Cause for the Partial Amputations of His Legs

When patients visit the doctor, they expect to receive appropriate standards of care, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Due to substandard care, a number of Connecticut patients end up suffering even more at the hands of medical professionals. In an out-of-state case, a man has filed a lawsuit citing medical errors as the cause for the partial amputations of his legs.

The man went in for a weight-loss operation, which is supposed to lead to weight loss by forcing reduced food consumption. According to the man, he ended up losing more than weight as a result of the surgery. He claims that, during the surgery, doctors accidentally cut his aorta. This caused the man to lose an enormous amount of blood, resulting in decreased circulation to his legs.

Afterward, he was transported to the hospital where he claims the physicians did not diagnose him in an appropriate time frame. Due to the numerous errors, as cited in the lawsuit, the man experienced organ failure and he eventually had to have both legs partially amputated. He is requesting damages in the amount of $10 million.

This case is an illustration of how medical errors can lead to amputations and other disabling injuries. Patients who are injured may have to undergo surgeries or require long-term care. Even afterward, they may still be left with a lot of pain and discomfort. Patients, who were injured due to a doctor’s negligence, may wish to pursue medical malpractice claims against the physician or medical facility. A Connecticut civil court may award damages if evidence demonstrates that the medical staff acted in a negligent manner that caused the patients’ injuries.
