Local Police Recently Arrested the Woman for Driving Drunk to a Party With Her 2 Children in the Car

June 25, 2012 General

While victims of drunk driving accidents often find it difficult to forgive the offending driver, that task may well prove impossible when the driver endangered others by taking passengers.

Fortunately, one Connecticut woman’s irresponsible choice did not cause harm to her passengers. Local police recently arrested the woman for driving drunk to a party with her 2 children in the car. According to the police report, the host of the party, observing the woman to be drunk, had called the ex-husband to request that he pick up the children. The ex-husband then called the police.

Drivers in Connecticut face a very real threat from drunk drivers. According to one study, alcohol abuse is often a lifelong problem for offenders. Researchers who interviewed 700 adults with drunk-driving convictions incurred about 15 years earlier found that nearly 50% never stopped drinking or had relapsed into unhealthy habits.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident because another driver was negligently driving under the influence, don’t delay in contacting an attorney. It may seem that drunk driving accident cases involve more clear cut evidence of negligence than other car accident cases. However, there are unique aspects that require the attention of an experienced personal injury attorney.

For example, if the crash resulted in a criminal charge being brought against the other driver for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, an attorney can determine whether any evidentiary findings in that related case might be applicable to your civil claim. Depending on the facts of your case, the restaurant, bar or nightclub that served the driver alcohol might also be liable for damages pursuant to a dram shop claim. An attorney can advise you on how best to prepare a claim.
