To keep the roads safe for everyone, the National Safety Council offers these safe driving tips for Labor Day weekend travelers:
- If you are drinking, do not drive. Police will be out in full force to catch drunk drivers before they cause an accident.
- If you do drink, make arrangements for a safe ride. Download the Uber or Lyft app prior to going out.
- Wear your seat belt. It’s estimated that 148 people could survive a collision this weekend because they wore a safety belt.
- Ensure children are in properly installed safety seats appropriate for their size.
- Leave early for your destination to discourage speeding and behind-the-wheel frustration.
- Limit distractions while driving. Turn down the music, ask passengers to keep their voices low, and put all electronics away.
