Fatal Accidents Have Been Occurring With Alarming Regularity Near the Intersection of Captain Thomas Boulevard and Dyke Street in West Haven
In the last few months, fatal accidents have been occurring with alarming regularity near the intersection of Captain Thomas Boulevard and Dyke Street in West Haven. On Sept. 3, just after dusk, two motorcycles crashed into a truck there. This double-collision caused the death of one rider, while the other was left in critical condition.
Two other people have died as a result of auto accidents at this intersection since July, and one West Haven resident indicated that all three accidents have been motorcycle accidents.
Witnesses standing nearby this latest crash said that the force of the two motorcycles hitting the truck pushed the larger vehicle up onto two wheels. One passerby, a former EMT, estimated that the two motorcycles were traveling at speeds of roughly 70 miles per hour at the time of the collision.
Both bikes were wedged under the truck, and one rider died almost instantly. The other was thrown over the truck and landed face down on the road. The former EMT who witnessed the crash immediately ran to assist the young man. On the ground near the scene were the memorial flowers from a previous fatal accident.
Victims of auto accidents and their families need to be aware of their legal rights and options. In cases of serious injury, it may be possible to file a claim for medical damages and other compensation. If death occurs, then the victim’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim for some degree of compensation after what is surely an incalculable loss.
