Commercial Trucks Are a Vital Part of Our Modern Economy

August 31, 2014 General

Commercial trucks are a vital part of our modern economy. We rely on them for the transport of large amounts of goods and materials across the country. However, the fact that they share the road with smaller motor vehicles means that truck accidents are an all-too-frequent occurrence, resulting in injury or even death. Motorists here in Connecticut and all over the nation may have questions as to just how these accidents can happen and what they can do to avoid them.

Though truck drivers are often the type to have high amounts of patience and prowess — due to the nature of their work — accidents can still happen. When they do, they are often very serious because of the sheer enormity of the trucks. A common cause of these types of crashes is inadequate training, both in actual driving capabilities and safety issues. Truck drivers are also more likely to earn more from their companies if they complete their duties quickly, leading them to drive faster and longer than they perhaps should — some companies schedule them this way specifically,

There are times when a motorist who is driving in close proximity to a truck needs to exercise caution, as these larger vehicles have limitations that cars do not. Driving in a truck’s blind spots, using unsafe passing practices, not accounting for cross-winds and other behaviors can also contribute to the possibility that an accident will occur. No matter the reason, drivers that share the road with trucks will need to stay alert to any potential risks.

Those in Connecticut who have been injured or had a loved one killed in a collision with a truck may decide to file a personal injury or wrongful death claim against the truck driver and the trucking company. Doing so could result in financial restitution that may be used to cover medical bills, funeral expenses and other related costs.
