Watch your step: Connecticut’s most dangerous roads for pedestrians

A study by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign found that U.S. Route 1, which runs parallel to I-95 through most of the state’s shoreline communities.

From 2012-2014, there were a total of 127 pedestrian fatalities in Connecticut. Ten of those deaths occurred on Route 1. The next most dangerous roadway for pedestrians is Route 10, which runs North-South through the state through from New Haven to the Massachusetts border.

At the county level, Hartford had to most fatalities at 32, followed closely by New Haven and Fairfield counties, which both had 31 pedestrian deaths. The safest county in the state for pedestrians was Litchfield County.
