Multi-million dollar verdict granted in treatment errors case

Medical mistakes are common and entirely unfortunate for those who are negatively affected. For parents with children in need of medical care, any mistakes in treatment can change not only the child's life but the parents' as well. While treatment errors are behind numerous injuries every year in Connecticut and across the country, those affected can utilize legal remedies to seek compensation.

A medical malpractice case in another state recently concluded, and the jury found in favor of the injured child and her parents. The young girl, now age 7, was reportedly given an inaccurate dose of medication shortly after birth. This medication error caused the girl's heart to stop and it took over a half an hour before a medical team was able to revive her. This event caused a severe lack of oxygen which led to brain damages and multiple other injuries. These injuries are considered permanent and require that the child receive constant care.

The facility of treatment was named the defendant in this case. They have been ordered to pay the child and her parents over $17 million. The hospital, of course, denies any wrongdoing and plans to appeal.

While the damage has been done and the life of this family has been drastically altered, this verdict will help ensure this child received the care she needs without placing a significant financial burden on her parents. Cases involving treatment errors -- such as this -- may not come together quickly; it takes time to fully prepare a case, but in the long-run, the end-result can provided desperately needed monetary relief. Connecticut residents who feel they or a loved one have been injured due to negligence by medical providers can take legal actions in order to seek compensation for any damages sustained -- both economic and non-economic.
