Accidents With These Big Rigs

April 28, 2015 General

Like it or not, sharing roads with semi-trailers is a part of life. Numerous Connecticut residents do this everyday whether they are commuting to work, heading out on vacation or just going about their normal daily routine. Unfortunately, accidents with these big rigs happen, and when they do, the results can be catastrophic. Those who have suffered injuries or lost loved ones in truck accidents may, through legal means, seek monetary compensation for any losses incurred. Many may wonder, though, what damages are deemed recoverable following such incidents.

The types of damages recoverable after a truck accident will vary based upon the outcome of the incident. An injured person, for example, will likely face significant physical trauma along with emotional scars and financial losses. These individuals may generally seek compensation for things like:

  • Current and future medical expenses
  • Household services
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering

The list for those who lose a loved one in a wreck with a commercial trailer is somewhat different. Surviving family members are often emotionally and financially burdened by their loss. While there is no replacement for the life unexpectedly taken, compensation may be awarded for any economic and, possibly, some non-economic losses as well. These types of damages may include loss of consortium, medical expenses, funeral expenses, loss of income and anything else that directly contributes to monetary deprivation.

Truck accidents can cause significant losses to all those negatively impacted, whether that is an injured person, his or her loved ones or — in the event of fatality — surviving family members. As such, seeking compensation would certainly be considered a reasonable action. Legal claims may be filed, not only against the truck driver believed responsible for the crash, but his or her employer as well. Assistance is available to help determine the types of legal claims that may be filed and the kinds of damages which are deemed recoverable in accordance with Connecticut laws.
