Connecticut Car Accident Results in Death

Most motorists recognize the possibility exists that they could be involved in a car accident. Nevertheless, they might feel that their car offers a degree of protection from injury or death, and that is often the case. Pedestrians, however, do not have that same level of protection from surrounding traffic. Pedestrian accidents that involve a vehicle frequently result in harm to the victim, as there is little to no barrier between the victim and the motor vehicle. A recent accident of this type happened here in Connecticut and resulted in the death of the man involved.

The accident occurred on a recent evening when, according to police, a man had parked his car on the side of a roadway for an unknown reason and exited his vehicle. Officers say that a woman was driving her car on the same road and struck him as he was crossing the street. He was rushed to a local hospital but died due to his injuries.

Police are still searching for answers as to precisely what happened regarding this accident. They have appealed to the public for more information that may help them piece together what occurred. At this time, no charges have been filed nor have the authorities disclosed any intention to do so. They have not announced whether they believe there were any potential contributing factors that might have caused the crash.

Even if the driver of the car who is accused of hitting the man never faces any criminal charges, the victim’s family could file a wrongful death claim against her. If they were to pursue such action, they will need to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that the car driver negligently caused the fatal crash. Doing so could result in financial restitution that may help them cover expenses related to the crash, such as funeral costs or medical bills. Pedestrian accidents like this one here in Connecticut may leave authorities with more questions than answers, but there are still ways to hold those deemed responsible accountable for their actions.
