Man receives prison sentence for involvement in 2010 crash

Being seriously injured or losing a loved one to an auto accident can be a traumatic experience. Victims of car accidents who have suffered great pain or loss due to other people's negligence may find it difficult to accept their misfortunes, and they may feel the need to seek justice. The law protects innocent victims of auto accidents by punishing those who are found guilty of negligent driving.

A 24-year-old man from Manchester, Connecticut, received an 18-month prison sentence recently for his involvement in a car accident that caused severe injuries to two women. He pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular assault and DUI. One of the victims, a 62-year-old woman driving the car that the man's car collided with, said that the sentence was not long enough. She had kidney disease, and the internal injuries she sustained due to the accident caused cysts in her kidneys to rupture.

The accident took place in June 2010, near the intersection of Center Street and Jarvis Road in Manchester, which is just outside of Hartford. The man was driving with a 22-year-old woman in the front passenger seat. He crashed head-on with a westbound car. The female passenger suffered severe injuries to her face and head. The driver, who sustained a head injury, told police that he had been consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana prior to the accident. His blood alcohol content was 0.152, almost twice the legal limit.

In addition to having to endure pain and suffering, victims who are seriously injured in an auto accident may also experience financial problems due to medical expenses or loss of income. People shouldn't have to endure thousands of dollars in bills and lost income because someone else made the selfish decision to drive under the influence.
