An Off-duty Police Lieutenant Was Injured in a Car Crash on North Frontage Road on Sept. 18

October 5, 2012 General

The physical pain experienced by those injured in car accidents can be unbearable, but other unexpected challenges can also follow. From treatment of fractures to catastrophic trauma care, car accidents can cost injured victims thousands of dollars in medical bills. For those who are seriously wounded, their financial well-being may also be threatened by lost wages. One typical example has affected a member of the New Haven, Connecticut, police force, who is now recovering after an accident.

An off-duty police lieutenant was injured in a car crash on North Frontage Road on Sept. 18. The female lieutenant was waiting in traffic at 11:20 p.m. when she was rear-ended at the intersection of Dwight Street and North Frontage Road by a 42-year-old male driver. The impact of the crash forced the lieutenant’s car into the vehicle in front of her.

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle that initiated the crash was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The male was hostile with police and refused a field sobriety test. The driver later also refused a blood alcohol test at police headquarters. He has been charged with driving under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions and following too closely.

The lieutenant was treated at a local hospital and later released.

For victims suffering after an automobile accident caused by the carelessness of another motorist, it is important to know about the possibility of compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages. Drunk driving is never excusable, and the person responsible for this accident needs to be held accountable so that it never happens again.
