A 50-year-old Man Driving a 2001 Subaru Forester Struck a Light Pole Near Exit 39 on I-84 in Farmington

September 6, 2012 General

Everyone knows that drivers in Connecticut and throughout the country are responsible for exercising due caution on the road. This duty means that drivers are also responsible for the safety of their passengers. Motorists who fail in this regard can be held accountable for injuries caused by the driver’s negligence.

Recently, a 50-year-old man driving a 2001 Subaru Forester struck a light pole near Exit 39 on I-84 in Farmington, causing traffic delays and critically injuring one of his passengers. The passenger, an 18-year-old male living at the same address as the driver, suffered internal injuries and a laceration on his head. He was taken to Hartford Hospital by ambulance along with three other passengers who sustained minor injuries.

This particular accident apparently involved only one car, which the driver lost control of. After hitting the light pole, the vehicle rolled a couple of times before coming to a stop on the metal beam of a guardrail.

Police say the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. If they were unaware of this fact, the passengers in the car may have a case to sue the driver for their injuries. Negligence on the part of motorists can make them liable for injuries and other damages, and victims of driver negligence should be aware of their rights under Connecticut law.

For instance, personal injury claims help accident victims receive compensation for damages such as medical expenses and lost wages. Understanding the circumstances and laws surrounding legal action in these cases helps victims begin the process of seeking repayment for their injuries.
