Kate W. Haakonsen, was quoted in the New York Times and on CNN.com in an AP article regarding court orders for college education support. Referring to the act passed by the Connecticut Legislature in the 2002 session, Kate noted that a majority of legislators felt it was appropriate to treat divorced parents differently from married couples when it came to college support. "Children of divorced parents are less likely to go to college, less likely to go to prestigious schools, and are generally less economically successful than their parent," she said. "As a matter of public policy, we have to decide if that's what we want." For more on this subject, see Post-Majority and College Education Support in Connecticut – Timing Matters"
