Attorney Kate W. Haakonsen has practiced law since 1978 and joined Brown, Paindiris & Scott in 1995. Her principal areas of practice are Divorce Law and Family Law. She also concentrates in collaborative law and mediation and has over 200 hours of mediation training and over 70 hours of Collaborative Training. Attorney Haakonsen is also experienced in other civil litigation and real estate.
Attorney Haakonsen is a frequent speaker at family law and mediation conferences around New England.
Attorney Haakonsen is admitted to practice in Connecticut and in the U.S. District Court for Connecticut, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and serves as the Family Section’s Secretary and as a member of that section’s Executive and Legislative Committees; she is also a member of the Hartford County Bar Association where she served as co-chair of the Family Law Committee, and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. Attorney Haakonsen is also a charter member and past president of the Connecticut Counsel for Divorce Mediation and Family Dispute Resolution and Connecticut Collaborative Divorce Lawyers. She is an Advanced Practitioner member of Association for Conflict Resolution, a member of International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and a past president of the Hartford Association of Women Attorneys. She was also a member of the Connecticut Statewide Grievance Committee from 1994 to 1996. She has been chosen by her peers as a "Superlawyer" in the annual Connecticut Magazine listing.
